Ultralight Backpacking Adventures
(And Other Outdoor Tales)
Some people might find floating down a river on a pile of
logs, with a bicycle standing in the middle unusual, and even
entertaining to read about. I realized this one day, and decided
to start writing down the details of my various little adventures.
I used the stories on several of my web sites.
This book is a collection of fourteen of those stories,
including three that can't be found anywhere else. They range
from simple ultralight backpacking trips to a climb up 20,600-foot
Mount Chimborazo, in Ecuador. There is a hitchhiking adventure
involving a grizzly bear, when I was sixteen years old, and a
seven-day 110 mile ultralight trek in Colorado twenty years later
(with less than 17 pounds on my back).
There are some fun ones, like "Aliens On The Tundra,"
the story of a night camped in high winds above tree line in
Montana. There are more serious adventures too, like "Terror
In The Waves." The book is free, and you can even copy it
(without changing it) to give away to friends or even visitors
to your web site, if you have one.
It is in PDF format, which is quickly becoming the standard
for e-books. You probably already have a PDF reader installed
in your computer. If not, you can get the latest Adobe PDF reader
for free at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
